About makhana (fox nut)
Makhana is the popped seed of the fox nut plant, grown mainly in Bihar's Katihar, Darbhanga, Madhubani and Purnia districts. It is sold raw, popped, roasted and flavoured, and as flour.
Exports have grown strongly, with the United States, Canada and the United Arab Emirates among the largest buyers.
